ImageFinder Java-Applet (c) 1999 by Holger Isenberg

Pathfinder images courtesy of JPL/NASA/Caltech.
All images taken from the three Pathfinder CD-ROMs:
available at the NASA PDS Image Database

The applet is currently 260 kBytes large, as it loads the complete index file for all 16661 images taken by Pathfinder.
The download time on a 33kbit/s Modem line is about 1 minute.
Please wait 10-20 seconds after the Applet started for creating the image-index.

If you want to use the BMP image saving function, you have to add the following lines to your .java.policy file manually or via policytool:

grant codeBase "*" {
  permission "*:*", "connect, resolve";
  permission "/tmp/-", "write,delete";
  permission "/tmp/*", "write,delete";
  permission "c:\tmp/*", "write,delete";
  permission "c:\temp/*", "write,delete";
  permission "${/}tmp${/}-", "write";

You can use the Applet on your local harddisk, if you have the copies of 1 or all 3 Pathfinder CD-ROMs from NASA.

How to install the Java-Applet for Windows 95/98/2000

  1. Download and extract it to your harddisk. (e.g. to c:\imgfinder)
  2. Make sure, you have about 400 MBytes free space on the harddisk.
    Then copy all .gif-Files with their complete paths from the three CD-ROMs to harddisk with the following commands in the DOS-Window (CD-Drive is d:\ in this example):
  3. Now you can start the Applet with entering the following URL in your Internet-Browser:

You need Java 1.1 which is supported in most Internet Browsers like Netscape Navigator 4.08 or better, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, Sun Hotjava and Sun JDK Appletviewer 1.1 or 1.2.
